Blown away by lightness
I’ve lost 5 kilos in the last three months, and I am feeling blown away by how much easier it feels to run. I knew it would feel easier, of course — 5kg of bouncing fat is a real factor — but I underestimated it.
The energy difference is smaller than I would have guessed before crunching the numbers: just ~25 calories less for a 5k run. But the qualitative difference? It seems massive! It feels kinda fun. Wheeee!
Next time, I’m going to put on my 5 kilo weight vest to remind myself of what it felt like to run back in May. 😜 Less fun, probably! But it will be so satisfying knowing that I can just take it off when I get back. (It was. Took me longer than expected, but I did try that.)

There’s a fair bit of wildfire smoke in Vancouver today (notice the light colour), so I was running with my RZ Mask. Sweaty! But I don’t want to suck those evil little particles into my lungs. I had no problem at all getting enough oxygen with a heart rate of >150/min.
